Easy Peasy Mother's Day Gifts

Craft Stick Heart Frame
Mother's Day is such a wonderful holiday - when else do we take the time to honor our moms and let them know how special they are? Here are some very simple, easy crafts to create at home or in the class perfect for gifting to the sweet moms or grandmothers in your kids' lives.

Button Pin
This is a fun and creative idea for making your own lapel or scarf pins for Mother's Day using buttons, craft pins and basic craft supplies.

Coupons for Mom
I love this easy and thoughtful gift for mom, especially if your a budget savvy person. Have the kids draw their own coupons for Mom onto regular paper or cardstock with markers and crayons. Some ideas for the coupons might be:

Coupon for unloading the dishwasher (or washing the dishes)
Coupon for a back rub or foot massage
Coupon for a quiet hour or two by herself (bubble bath or a good book)
Coupon for breakfast in bed or made by the kids

Use your imagination to make all kinds of quick and fun coupons for mom.

Here are a few more ideas for fun and easy Mother's Day gifts to make!

Candy Jar

Fingerprint Garden
This craft idea can be made from cloth (which will require some sewing) or you can keep it simple and create the same fingerprint garden on a piece of heavy construction paper or cardstock.

Flower Pens for Mom
With some ink pens, silk flowers and a little floral tape you can make a pretty and functional bouquet of flowers for your mom as an office gift or desk gift.

Crafty Wednesday: Mother's Day Bookmark

Each Wednesday we'll bring you a fun craft to make with your kids!

This week's craft is...

Mother's Day Bookmark

cardstock colored paper
picture of child
short poem
hole punch
ribbon or tassel

Cut cardstock into 4 pieces the short way (the size of a bookmark). Give each child a rectangle. Punch a hole in the top with a holepunch. Have them copy a short poem about their Mom, or let them write their own. Then allow the children to paste or glue their picture at the top. It may be best to punch holes first. If you have access to a laminating machine, laminate the bookmark. Tie ribbon through hole. Now mom has a bookmark for that book she's reading and each time she reads she'll see her little darling's face.

Monday Music: Mother's Day Song

Each Monday we'll bring you a fun song to sing with your kids!

This week's song is...

Mother's Day Song

Here is a great song preschoolers will love to sing for their moms, and it will help them learn how to spell mommy.

It is sung to the tune of BINGO

I love my mom and she loves me
And Mommy is her name-o
M-O-M-M-Y, M-O-M-M-Y, M-O-M-M-Y
And Mommy is her name-o!

- each time you sing it, take off one of the letters and replace with "clap". Repeat until all letters are gone. Have fun!

Friday Activity: Mom and Me Memories

Each Friday we'll bring you a fun activity to do with your kids!

This week's activity is...

Mom and Me Memories

pictures of mom & child (as many as there are letters in your childs name)
lots of colorful cardstock paper
colorful pens/pencils
two pieces of cardboard (5x7 or 8x10)
glue
scissors

Create a mini photo album of memories by using the letters of your childs name. For a 5x7 album, lay two cardboard pieces side by side and cover them with paper to create a "folder. Use your card stock paper and fold pieces in half, glue photos on each side of the inside folded part. Glue the outside of the folded part to another paper to create a fanned booklet. Glue the front and back to the covered cardboard folder to make your book. Use pens and crayons to record the memories on the pages the pictures are glued to. Start with the first letter of the child's name and let each page be a letter of the name and a memory beginning with that letter. Let child think of a memory that begins with the first letter of their name (ex. A - always laughing)and use a picture of mom & kid with all smiles.

Crafty Wednesday: A Handful of Love for Mommy

Each Wednesday we'll bring you a fun craft to make with your kids!

This week's craft is...

A Handful of Love for Mommy
Construction Paper
Paint
Pipe Cleaners
Photo of Child
To make a hand print Butterfly for Mommy...
Have the child dip their hands in paint. Then place both hands near the top of the paper with thumbs about two inches apart. Then dip their hands in another color of paint and have their hands go in the opposite direction ( just below the other hands) with the thumbs about two inches apart again. Let hands dry and paint a body down the middle. Write "A Handful of Love for Mommy!" on the butterfly body and place a small picture of the child on it. Add pipe cleaners on the head for antenna. This craft makes a great Mother's Day gift.

Monday Music: Five Pretty Mommies

Each Monday we'll bring you a fun song to sing with your kids!

This week's song is...

Five Pretty Mommies

Sing to tune of "Five Little Ducks"
Five pretty mommies I once knew,
Fat ones, skinny ones, tall ones, too,
But the one in the middle that belongs to me...
I love her and she loves me!

Down to the grocery we did go,
Wibble - wobble, wibble - wobble, to and fro,
But the one in the middle that belongs to me,
I love her and she loves me!
