Applicious Ideas For Fall

Fall is the perfect time to express your love for apples, orchards and all things under the harvest moon! I've collected and shared a few craft and snack ideas to get you and your kids well on your way to enjoying and celebrating the autumn season!


Apple Bag
This project may be used as a lesson tool, classroom decor or Autumn take home craft. It's simple and you may already have the supplies on hand.

Apple Hod Pad
This craft is very unique and fun. However, the instructions call for hot glue (which works best) but could be hard for younger kids to work with.

Apple Face
A fun and easy craft project to make with preschoolers, this craft also doubles as a nice bulletin board decor for fall in the classroom or homeschool room.

Apple Painting
One of my favorites, this art process is a little different. Use an apple, cut in half, as your paint "stamp" and dip it in paint to create interesting shapes on paper or burlap.

Apple Cobbler
This apple snack is very simple and yummy. I think it's the perfect autumn snack, especially on chilly fall evenings.

Apple Fun For Fall!

Are you ready for Fall? A nice way to ring in the Harvest season is to visit a local orchard and pick or purchase some beautiful and delicious apples! Don't have an orchard near you?

Not to worry, you can find some wonderful apples at the grocery or market. In the meantime, try some of our apple crafts, games and snacks to enhance your harvest fun!

Apple Bag

Friday Activity: Apple Hunting

Each Friday we'll bring you a fun activity to do with your kids!

This week's activity is...

Apple Hunting

colored tag board
laminating machine

Make a copy of different sizes of apples (small, medium, large). Color them red, yellow, and green. Laminate the apples to make them sturdier. Hide the apples throughout the classroom. Have the children to go and find the small green apples and so on until all the apples are found. This game will help the children to learn their colors as well as different sizes.

Crafty Wednesday: Apple Family Tree

Each Wednesday we'll bring you a fun craft to make with your kids!

This week's craft is...

Apple Family Tree

brown paint
green paint
red paint
large sheet of paper
paint brush

Use washable paint. Paint child's arm to the elbow and hand brown. Open fingers and print the arm and hand on a large sheet of paper. Let dry. Sponge paint green leaves on the tree. Let dry. Make a fist and press either thumb end or pinky end in red paint. Press these hand apples onto the tree. Make one apple for Mom, Dad, self, siblings. When dry, add their names.

Friday Activity: Apple Tree Bulletin Board

Each Friday we'll bring you a fun activity to do with your kids!

This week's activity is...

Apple Tree Bulletin Board

Tree with branches and trunk
fall leaves made from construction paper and laminated
dessert size white paper plates
red and green construction paper
camera
apple smile snack

Each year as we prepare for Curriculum night, our special education preschoolers prepare a special bulletin board for their parents. I bought a tree complete with trunk and branches for all seasons from a local teacher store, and fall leaves. The children made apples to go on the tree by either a) tearing red typing paper b)cutting red construction paper to glue on each paper plate. Then the children glued a leaf to the top. After we made our snack during cooking, Apple Smiles, we took pictures of the children holding up their Apple "smile". On each child's apple we put their picture on it, and hung them on the tree. Now each child knows which apple is his/hers by their picture and so does their parents! Above the tree, we put the letters "These are the apples of our eyes!" A big hit with everyone in the school!

Crafty Wednesday: Apple Face

This week's craft is...

Apple Face

paper plates
brown pipe cleaner
green paper leaf
2 wiggly eyes

Glue 2 red paper plates back to back. Leave enough space to insert a green pipe cleaner twisted in the shape of a stem. Glue on a green construction paper leaf. Then glue the 2 moveable eyes on and draw a smile with a black marker.

Tuesday Recipe: Apple Frosty

Each Tuesday we'll bring you a tasty recipe or craft recipe to make with your kids!

This week's recipe is...

Apple Frosty

1 yellow apple
1 peeled banana
1/4 C. milk
3 ice cubes

Peel and core apple. Peel banana. Blend all ingredients in blender. YUM!

Tuesday Recipe: Apple Cake

Each Tuesday we'll bring you a tasty recipe or craft recipe to make with your kids!

This week's recipe is...

Apple Cake

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
4-5 skinned apples
plastic knives
mixing bowls
wooden spoons

1. Give a group of children plastic knives and instruct them to cut apples into small cubes.

2.Have another group measure the dry ingredients and mix them together in a small bowl.

3. Give a 3rd group the eggs and sugar and beat together until well blended in a large bowl. Then add the oil and beat again.

4. Stir in the dry ingredients until moist. Fold in the apple cubes.

5. Pour the batter into a greased 11"x15" baking pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Let cool, then cut into 18 squares.

Tuesday Recipe: Apple Cubes

This week's recipe is...

Apple Cubes

2 envelopes unflavored gelatin

2 cups water

6 oz can apple juice concentrate

Pour 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin into a bowl and add 2 cups boiling water. Stir until gelatin is dissolved. Add one 6 oz. can of apple juice concentrate. Pour mixture into a lightly greased 9 x 13 inch cake pan and chill. Cut into squares when firm.
